Should You Use Your Will Power as much as you can? What's its Relation with Burnout?

Many professionals and business people have great will power and they use it to an excessive extent. They use their will power to discipline themselves doing tough things, so that they think they are going to reap and harvest in the future.

Overcome thinks will power needs to be used smartly, rather than stiffly. Will power can consume your energy. Will power is limited in quantity; every time you use your will power to drive yourself doing something you’d not do without it, you use some amount of it. Once you use it up, once you finish your supply for the day, you will need to relax, sleep, entertain and rest to get the supply back. It is not increasing by being used more. It is not even endless. If you continue to over-draft it, it is one cause that you may get burnout.

Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet constant demands. As the stress continues, you begin to lose the interest and motivation that led you to take on a certain role in the first place.

Will power needs to be used when certain distraction appears and you need to reject it. For example, you just started working on a project, but a friend asks you to join a party with them. As you are full of energy at the moment, you need to turn the friend off by using your will power. Will power is not used to force yourself to continue to work when you are already stressed out. You need to use it smartly. Will power is best used for not doing something, not for forcing yourself to work like a machine without more oil to burn.
